Lulu Guinness History
Lulu Guinness founded her eponymous brand in 1989 at the age of 29, inspired by the idea of a fashion briefcase for women. This concept eventually morphed into a new idea for vintage style rose basket bags, reflecting Lulu's instincts for fashion's edgier boundaries. Critical acclaim and praise from leading fashion industry figures came quickly, paving the way for Lulu Guinness stores in London, Taiwan, Shanghai and Beijing along with prime space on the shelves of the world's most prestigious department stores.
Lulu remains as involved in her brand as the day she founded it. Lulu designs the interior of every store with panache, where she expresses the true essence of her brand, creating a destination where customers can be privy to the weird and wonderful world of Lulu Guinness. Her iconic designs have surpassed the role of ordinary fashion accessories. The Collectable bags have been described as 'tomorrow's treasures', becoming permanent fixtures in museums worldwide.
Without any formal design training, Lulu's drive and organic passion for original design have proven to be the keys to her success in the fickle business of fashion. Today Lulu still lives by the motto of her hero, the Surrealist artisan and fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli, 'Dare to Be Different'. The women who wear Lulu Guinness do just that.
Her creations are regularly seen on the arms of Kate Moss, Helena Bonham Carter, Poppy Delevigne, Olivia Palermo, Dita von Teese, and Emma Watson, trailblazing women with a taste for the extraordinary. They are women with a fierce sense of humor and an even fiercer sense of their own femininity.
Never see without her trademark red lipstick, Lulu is the living, breathing personification of her brand. The central motif, the distinctive Dali-esque lips clutch, remains the brand's staple accessory, transporting the Surrealist art movement into mainstream popular culture.
Lulu Guinness' individual style and irresistible glamour is reflected in the eyewear collection, featuring colorful interpretations of the cat eye shape and Lulu’s signature lips. The collection also features exclusive patterned material, dramatic retro shapes and a hint of mischief. Like all of Lulu’s designs, the eyewear is sophisticated yet daring, commercial but collectible, luxurious and affordable.
We are pleased to announce the 2018 launch of Through the Lulu Glass extended fit collection.
